Best For Vegans
Although the number of committed vegans in the UK ostensibly equates to only a very small proportion of the adult population – perhaps as little as under 1% – the movement punches considerably above its weight and this is especially true among younger age groups, particularly females aged under 30.
Veganism’s influence therefore extends to a much wider support base comprising vegetarians (of whom there are estimated to be some 3.5m in the UK, or 3% of the adult population), pescatarians (those that restrict meat consumption to fish only and this group also makes up 3% of the adult population) and flexitarians, the largest group of all (14% of adult population), meaning those cutting back on meat and dairy consumption for health, animal welfare and environmental reasons.
Thousands of vegan and vegetarian products have been launched into the UK retail over the last three years and major retailers, including supermarkets, are reacting to customer demand by providing increased shelf-space dedicated to vegan products and offering alternatives to animal derivatives across dozens of categories throughout their stores.
Best For Vegans will provide a series of recommendations of the best products and services now available for the growing numbers of people choosing to buy into plant-based lifestyles. Our categories will include food, drink, personal care and fashion.
